The Seed Report
Our flagship long-read. One roguelike, one seed, taken apart across 2,500 words — decisions, dead ends, and the maths behind the win. New issue every second Thursday, free to read.
A quiet corner of the internet for players
Roguelike deep dives, indie discoveries, and unhurried essays on why we keep pressing restart — written from a small studio in Fitzroy, Melbourne.
As featured & read across the scene
A note from the founder
I'm Marcus — I started RogueLegendFrontier in 2019 after a decade of losing to Spelunky at 2am. Most game coverage races to the score. I wanted a place that lingers: on a single seed, a clever synergy, the feeling of a well-earned death.
Everything here is written by hand, played to completion, and published on a slow schedule. No review embargoes chased, no outrage manufactured — just careful notes from someone who genuinely loves the loop.

The columns
Our flagship long-read. One roguelike, one seed, taken apart across 2,500 words — decisions, dead ends, and the maths behind the win. New issue every second Thursday, free to read.
Weekly spotlight on an Australian or global indie priced under AUD $30 — with an honest hour-one verdict.
A monthly audio column breaking down the balance changes that actually matter. Roughly 15 minutes.
Slow interviews with Melbourne developers — from Collingwood bedrooms to Fitzroy co-working desks.
A members' thread ($6/month) where we finish one older roguelike together, one chapter a week.
Good to know
Yes — every column, review, and Seed Report is free with no paywall. The optional Backlog Club membership (AUD $6/month) simply supports the writing and unlocks the members' discussion thread. Everything published to the main blog stays open to all.
The Seed Report lands every second Thursday, Indie Under $30 goes out weekly, and Patch Notes, Read Aloud is monthly. We deliberately keep the pace slow so each piece is properly played and edited. Subscribers get the weekly letter every Sunday morning, Melbourne time.
We do, and we always disclose it clearly at the top of any piece. A review copy never guarantees coverage or a favourable write-up — plenty go unreviewed. Melbourne-based indie developers are especially welcome to reach out via the contact form below.
Mostly PC and handheld — Steam Deck, Switch, and the odd retro session. We focus on roguelikes, deckbuilders, and small-team indies rather than blockbuster releases. If a game rewards a second, third, and hundredth run, it's squarely in our wheelhouse.
Absolutely. We run one guest essay a month and pay a flat AUD $180 per accepted piece. Send a two-paragraph pitch through the contact form and we'll reply within a week or two — we read every single one.
